WalletConnect Launches WCT Token on Solana with 5 Million Tokens Airdrop

At the Solana Accelerate conference, WalletConnect announced the launch of its WCT token on the Solana blockchain, becoming a fully multi-chain asset. This is reported by the official WalletConnect website. Along with the launch, an airdrop of 5 million tokens for active Solana users was announced, which will take place this summer.

Details of launch on Solana

WCT, previously available on Ethereum and Optimism OP Mainnet, is now expanding its presence on Solana thanks to the Wormhole Native Token Transfers (NTT) framework. This technology allows the token to move between networks in a native form, without being wrapped. Launching on Solana makes WCT fully multi-chain, opening up new opportunities for users and developers.

Pedro Gomez, founder and director of the WalletConnect Foundation, noted:

“My career began on Ethereum, and WalletConnect was initially focused on this network. But we have become truly blockchain agnostic. WCT should reflect this. I’m impressed by the energy and developers in the Solana ecosystem and am excited to welcome them to the WCT community.”

Benefits of running WCT for Solana

Running WCT on Solana brings the following features:

  1. Convenient bridge through the Wormhole NTT standard;
  2. Native trading on the Jupiter decentralized exchange (coming soon);
  3. Fast and cheap transactions thanks to the high scalability of Solana.

Additionally, it opens up the prospect of new governance tools and community rewards by linking the Ethereum, Optimism, and Solana ecosystems.

Airdrop for Solana users

The WalletConnect Foundation is allocating 5 million WCT tokens to be distributed to active Solana users through partners such as Phantom, Jupiter, Backpack and Solflare. The goal is to reward those who are already actively building, staking, and transacting in the ecosystem. The total volume of WCT emission remains unchanged – 1 billion tokens.

Airdrop dates: summer 2025;

Details: Eligibility criteria and instructions will be announced in the coming weeks.

This is WCT’s second major airdrop following the 50 million token airdrop in 2024 for early adopters in the Optimism and Ethereum ecosystems.

Plans for the future

WalletConnect intends to continue expanding WCT:

  • Activate new management tools for token holders;
  • Introduce token incentives for applications, wallets and users;
  • Expand the availability of WCT to other networks.

Robinson Barkey, commercial director of the Wormhole Foundation, emphasized:

“Multichain should feel like one network. Extending WCT to Solana with Wormhole NTT is a signal that developers and users want seamless and secure movement of value.”

Opinion and conclusions

In my opinion, the launch of WCT on Solana strengthens WalletConnect’s position as a key player in the multi-chain space. Integration with Solana, one of the most active ecosystems, can attract new users and developers, and the airdrop will stimulate more activity. However, success will depend on the speed at which the promised management features and rewards are implemented.

News highlights:

  • WalletConnect launched WCT on Solana, becoming a multi-chain token.
  • Airdrop of 5 million WCT for Solana users will take place in the summer of 2025.
  • The plans include new management tools and expansion to other networks.
