Ava Labs introduced Avalanche9000: deployment of sovereign L1 networks fell by 99.9% amid the launch of $40 million in grants
Avalanche ecosystem developers from Ava Labs announced the official launch of Avalanche9000, the largest infrastructure update in network history, on the test network with an approved plan for transition to the mainnet. The upgrade marks a fundamental revision of the architecture of Subnets, transforming them into full-fledged, independent L1 blockchains with a single level of interaction and native liquidity. Along with the technical release, the Avalanche Foundation announced the launch of the Retro9000 grant program with a budget of $40 million for developers of tools, infrastructure solutions and next-generation smart contracts.
How Avalanche9000 reduces blockchain startup costs by 99.9%?
The main economic barrier to the development of Avalanche subnets for a long time remained the strict requirement for validators: to maintain a subnet it was necessary to launch a node on the main network and block at least 2,000 AVAX (over $60,000 at the current rate). The Avalanche9000 update, which combines the ACP-77 (Subnet-Only Validators) and ACP-125 offerings, completely eliminates this dependency:
- Decoupling from Primary Network validation: Developers of custom L1 networks can now attract their own validators without having to pay or freeze thousands of collateral in AVAX tokens on P-Chain.
- Micropayments instead of million-dollar locks:The cost of deploying and ongoing maintenance of a sovereign blockchain has dropped by 99.9% to a fixed dynamic fee for registering wealth, equivalent to several tens of dollars per year.
- Unification of cross-chain communication: Thanks to the built-in Avalanche Interchain Messaging (Teleporter) protocol, new L1 networks out of the box receive secure communication with the underlying C-Chain and external rollups without the use of vulnerable third-party bridges.
On what conditions will $40 million be distributed within the framework of the Retro9000 program?
To encourage early adoption and migration of independent development teams, the Avalanche Foundation introduced the Retro9000 retroactive funding program:
- Valued by utility: Unlike traditional grants with upfront payment, funds are distributed based on on-chain metrics, real user activity and the usefulness of the created modules for the entire ecosystem.
- Community voting: AVAX token holders and validator delegators take a direct part in ranking projects through the on-chain leaderboard, distributing grant allocations between the DeFi, GameFi and RWA teams.
- Focus on Institutional and Gaming L1:Priority is given to projects deploying high-performance networks to tokenize real-world assets and decentralized gaming worlds that critically need a sovereign runtime environment without gas competition.
