Roskomnadzor Restricted Access to the Site of the Cryptocurrency Exchange Aggregator BestChange.ru
The team of the aggregator of cryptocurrency exchangers BestChange.ru announced the blocking of its website in Russia. According to data published on the company’s official page, the resource was included in the Roskomnadzor register of prohibited sites, and is currently unavailable through most Russian providers. However, according to the editors of CryptoInside, the site is not completely blocked, and access to it is still possible through some providers.
Legal proceedings
BestChange lawyers began to resolve the issue of unblocking, stating that they had not received prior notices or warnings from Roskomnadzor. The company says it has no official position on the matter until it receives a response from the department to the request. The aggregator has already faced blocking in the past – the site was blocked in 2017, 2019 and 2020, but each time the company’s lawyers sought to have the restrictions lifted.
Reasons for blocking and changes in legislation
The main reason for blocking the resource in the past and at the present time are accusations that posting information about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is contrary to Russian laws. We remind you that on August 17, 2024, a law came into force in Russia prohibiting the offer of cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency exchange services to an unlimited number of persons. The law also restricts advertising of digital currencies, and administrative liability is provided for violation of these norms.
