Terraform sued Jane Street: Wall Street’s largest trading house knew about LUNA’s collapse in advance
💬 “Jane Street used market power to manipulate the market in its favor during one of the most significant moments in crypto history” – Todd Snyder, liquidation administrator of Terraform.
Terraform Labs bankruptcy administrator Todd Snyder filed a lawsuit against Jane Street Group in Manhattan federal court. This is Snyder’s second major lawsuit against Wall Street trading giants: in December 2025, he sued Jump Trading for $4 billion. Now one of the most profitable and secretive trading houses in the world is under fire. In the second quarter of 2025, Jane Street earned $10.1 billion in net trading revenue, ahead of JPMorgan ($8.9 billion) and Goldman Sachs ($7.8 billion).
The charges are harsh: insider trading, market manipulation and deceptive practices that precipitated the collapse of Terra-Luna in May 2022 and wiped out more than $40 billion in market value.
What happened in May 2022 – version of the claim
On May 7, 2022, Terraform Labs quietly withdrew 150 million TerraUSD from the Curve3pool liquidity pool. No public announcement. A few minutes after this step, a wallet associated with Jane Street withdrew 85 million TerraUSD from the same pool. UST began to lose its peg to the dollar – a “death spiral” began, which reset both UST and LUNA within a few days.
Coincidence or awareness? The lawsuit alleges the latter. According to Snyder, former Terraform employee Bryce Pratt – who later moved to Jane Street – created a closed communication channel with Terraform management, through which the firm received material, non-public information about the status of the protocol. On May 9, in the midst of the depeg, Pratt wrote in a group chat with Do Kwon and representatives of Terraform, offering to buy Bitcoin or LUNA. How exactly to write such a sentence at a time when you know that the system is collapsing is a question for the court.
Who is Jane Street and why is it important for crypto

If Jane Street’s lawsuit makes it through the courts, it will rewrite the understanding of how large market makers interact with crypto protocols. The discovery process could reveal Jane Street’s internal communications and trading data during the Terra collapse – and potentially affect others involved in those events. For the Bitcoin market right now, if Jane Street’s role as an authorized ETF participant is compromised, it will pose temporary risks to the liquidity of IBIT and other funds. We are keeping an eye on the date of the next court hearing.
