Alexey Pertsev will be released from prison under electronic surveillance
Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev said that on February 7 he will be released from prison and will be under electronic surveillance. A court in the Netherlands suspended his pre-trial detention, which will allow him to better prepare for an appeal.

In May 2024, a Dutch court found Pertsev guilty of laundering $1.2 billion through cryptocurrencies and sentenced him to five years and four months in prison. According to the court, he did not take measures to prevent the use of Tornado Cash by attackers.
Pertsev continues to fight for his innocence, arguing that the code itself is not a crime, and user privacy should not be regarded as intentional money laundering.
Support for the crypto community
After Tornado Cash was added to the US sanctions list in 2022, the crypto community actively supports Pertsev. To finance his defense, the JusticeDAO fund was created, to which Vitalik Buterin previously donated 50 ETH (approximately $170,000).
